Welcome to my blog, which will focus on radio news. There are some websites and books of interest in the column to your right and, at the bottom of the page, I've added an assortment of useful tools. Blog on!

Alright, so in the first ad (1), the beginning sfx are to get people's attention - sounds of brushing teeth and gargling? Charming..haha. But it grabs the attention of the listener. I think it's going after the teenagers and young adults who probably don't know as much as they should about contracting Hepatitis C. But mature adults also cannot be ruled out; also pretty equally male and female skewed.
There is a very clear message. The girl whos toothbrush is being borrowed has lots of information to tell her friend, and she doesn't sound condescending.
I liked the ad, because I felt it covered all the bases - she says 1. why she's concerned, 2. how it affects her, 3. gives information on how to find out more about Hep C: websites and phone numbers, and 4. she localized it to Nova Scotia, so the listener can relate.
In the second ad (2), the target are people who have already gotten tattoo(s), and people who don't have any and are maybe looking into it. Mainly young adults, male skewed, but can affect anyone looking to get one.
I liked the ad, because again, she was very clear with her message. She wanted to get her point across, that if you are going to get a tattoo, to really look into it first. And if you've gotten Hep C from getting a tattoo, you are not alone. There are people to talk to who are in the same boat.
The only thing I might have changed about the ad was I probably would have used male voices, because stereotypically, men seem to get more tattoos over women. If I'm a guy in the car, thinking about getting a tattoo, and I heard two women talking about it, well I might think that they're just being "girls", and worrying too much. But if I heard two men talking about the same thing, then I might feel more inclined to listen. But that is just going along with the stats and stereotypes saying more men get tattoos than women.
But overall two good PSA's!
Sometimes I feel like it's just you and me on here.
Here's my two cents: I really like your point about using male voices for the tattoo PSA. Actually, the ideal would be to have two versions of that -- one with male voices and one with female voices -- and have them run in rotation. I would also NOT run these spots on an easy listening or beautifu music station. I think the target is under fifty for sure.
Trust me! It's not just Connie and you haha I check it every other day to see what is being said. I'll start commenting more, but Connie basicly wrapped it all up in a nutshell.

You're absolutely right! It would be perfect to have two of the Tattoo PSA's - male and female! Now, did these actually run? Or did you create these just for this particular discussion?
I am in every day Vicki. I am learning sooo much too. Hopefull you can see that as more stories come in.
As a typical man, I have a very short attention span, "Hey look at that!" so therefore I LOVE te sound effects as nothing is left to me trying to figure out what is going on. It just cuts out a lot of verbage.
Connie has said the bulk of my feelings on these PSA's but I do feel that the first one had too many facts. But that might just be me. I have ADD I swear, so I can get board during a commercial! lol
Vicki, again, thanks for the blog!
The first PSA was 45 sec and the second was 30 sec, so there were more facts in the first one, for sure. They WERE intended for air and I assume these were sent out to stations in Nova Scotia, but I don't know for sure.
Thank you all for feedback!
Yes, Bob, I have noticed a difference in your input and would like your permission to use some examples. Would that be okay?
Anytime anyone has examples they would like to discuss, feel free to post them here. You all have permission to create postings as well as comments.
I think I'd like to continue with the next topic. We can come back to anything we've already discussed whenever you wish. After all, it all ties in togther.
You can use anything you'd like Vicki. Constructive criticism is the way we learn, or at lease hope to! lol
