A Good Example

Way to go Bob!

This story was written when we were going through that nasty cold snap. Bob localized the story well. But, as it affected a far larger area, I was alos able to use it for all of the markets that I cover. Everyone worries about frozen pipes when it gets that cold and every community has plumping and heating businesses. I thought this story showed a good bit of thought. I am guilty of shortening it up a bit, but I hope Bob will forgive me for that :-)

Darn Cold...new 6am...Jan. 28th, 2009...CKDH/VG
Cold snaps with wind chills in the minus thirty degree range mean extra money for heating. It's also the type of weather that keeps Reg LeBlanc of Reg's Plumbing & Heating busy fixing frozen pipes.Leblanc says that one of the most common mistakes people make during extra cold weather is to turn the heat down at night. He says it's actually a better idea to turn up the thermostat two or three degrees.

CLIP 1...very, very quickly.

LeBlanc also warns that fire hazards can be an issue when people are trying to thaw out frozen pipes.

Vicki this was really exciting to write! That seems foolish to say but our pipes froze here at the station and there is a lot of work that has to be done because of it. the owner was more than happy to give an interview and the reason I called him was that he advertises with us. I pitched the interview as NEWS/ADD! A companies name mentioned at the top of the hour got me some special attention to get what I wanted from him.
That being said, I would really not have had a clue as to see the potential of a story in the calamity in the office without your blog! I was the only one glad for the trouble with the plumbing as I had just finished printing off your blog to take home for more reading!
Thanks for the nice words. My challenge is to always have a story in the works. I see that its National "whatever" day and by that point its too late to really do a story on it. I don't want to always do political stories but those are the people who determine our tomorrow! Sadly enough! lol
